Malaysia is a South-East Asian country spanning a total landmass of 329, 847 square kilometres. It comprises of thirteen states and three federal territories. The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is the country’s capital city, while the Federal Territory of Putrajaya is the country’s administrative capital. Malaysia is made up of two regions- Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo Malaysia. The Malaysian Borneo region includes two states and one federal territory – Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan respectively whereas Peninsular Malaysia includes all the remaining 11 states and two federal territories.
The country’s west region achieved independence in year 1957, earning the name Malaya and was only known as Malaysia when it was joined by the eastern states, Sabah and Sarawak. The Head of State of Malaysia is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the government is headed by a Prime Minister. The country experiences a tropical climate year-round due to its location near the equator.
