Kedah

Kedah is located in the northwest of West Malaysia (6° 7? 42? N, 100° 21? 46? E). The origin of the name ‘Kedah’ has been disputed as there are several sources, namely from Arabic, Sanskrit and Chinese words.  Kedah is the eighth most-populated state in the country. To its north are Perlis and the Thai provinces of Songkhla and Yala, and to its south is Perak.

Kedah is known as the nation’s ‘rice bowl’, contributing to a third of Malaysia’s total rice production. Tourism, however is of growing importance especially in Langkawi Island. More recently through the existence of Kulim Hi-tech Park, which is part of the development of Northen Corridor Economic Region, Kedah is moving towards automotive and aerospace industries.
